: When I’m Sixty Four – the Sad Saga Continues
Last month I mused on the fact that while I had recently passed this musical milestone age, I was not going to go quietly into the night mending fuses and tending to the garden. Well, reality just b-slapped me in the face. I do not know how to describe the awful horror, but I’ll do my best.
Yes, it finally happened.
A young person offered me a seat on the subway. <Cue the screechy violin music from Psycho>
It started off innocently enough. I was catching the #1 train from Lincoln Center down to the Port Authority. The subway pulls into the station and a bunch of folks crowd into the car. There’s one empty seat, but I prefer to stand and I only got a few stops anyway, so I position myself near the door.
Then some young guy says: “Sir, would you like this seat?”
Me: “Oh no thanks”
YG: “Are you sure?”
Me: “No thanks, I only got a few stops”
It didn’t even register at first what was going on. Then slowly the realization came over me. What?? Me?? Need a seat?? Noooo… Not me……
So I am now officially old. But that ain’t gonna stop me.

Jan 5, Saturday, 7:00-9:00ish PM – Arne Englund, Ruthie’s BBQ, 64 1/2 Chestnut Ave, Montclair (973) 509-1134
It’s too bad you can’t get frequent driver miles, because Arrne Englund would be driving first class at least once a month. Arne is a super guitarist/singer who hails from western Jersey – but he plays so frequently in this area that we should make him an honorary Essex County resident. As always, Ruthie’s is BYO.

Jan 12 Saturday, 8-9:30 PM – Lunatic Fringe, Glen Ridge Community Center @ The Glen Ridge Train Station, 228 Ridgewood Avenue (corner of Bloomfield Avenue), Glen Ridge, NJ Reservations: (973) 429-1527
Fun fact? 2013 is the first year since 1987 which does not have a repeated number. Want some funny facts? Come to the show. Hi Sean, you are missed!

Jan 18, Friday, 7:00-9:00ish PM – Rob Signorile, Ruthie’s BBQ, 64 1/2 Chestnut Ave, Montclair (973) 509-1134
We had a great gig last last month at Hat City with the full band Jump, Shuffle, and Moan. This time it’s just me & Rob making it up as we go along (and it will be merrily). Hmm. What should I have for dinner? The ribs or the brisket burger?

Jan 26, Saturday, 9:00 PM-Midnight – Better Off Dead at The Great Notch Inn, Route 46, Little Falls (973) 256-7742
Change is inevitable. For years, the playing hours at The Great Notch have been 10-1 AM. But this is 2013, the US government got through the fiscal cliff (at least this one), and we will be starting an hour earlier – playing from 9 through midnight. Seeing as how I barely made it to midnight on New Year’s Eve that’s much better for this elderly person. Anyone want to catch the early bird special with me before the show?
