: It’s April 2010. So Where’s Eric?
Going along with the weather the last few days, this is a mild month for me.

April 16, Friday, 8-9:30 PM – Arthur Neilson, Loew’s Theater, 54 Journal Square, Jersey City, NJ 07306 (201) 798-6055, Reservations: (800) 440-7654
This is a major event. I will be supporting Arthur Neilson as we open up for Shemekia Copeland. If you have never heard her, Shemekia is a force of nature; when she opens her mouth and starts singing, it sounds like a dozen people are singing along with her. As you can see by the poster below, you can order tickets online, by phone, or at the concert. And speaking of the concert, Loew’s theater is worth the trip by itself. It is a restored ‘Movie Palace’ built in 1929 which somehow survived the multi-plexing of America. Going into the bathroom is almost worth the price of admission by itself.

April 27, Tuesday, 8:00ish-1:00ish PM – Blues Memorial for Lance Ong, at The Blend Bar 17 Chestnut Street, Ridgewood NJ (201) 447-4343
For those of you who didn’t know him, Lance Ong was the keyboard player for and husband of Nicole Hart. Nicole is one of the few people in the local NJ blues scene who has been breaking out into the larger musical world, her last album spent 18 weeks on the bues charts. In March last year, Lance was diagnosed with lung cancer. Even though he did not smoke and lived a healthy life style, the cancer spread rapidly and Lance died in December. Being a cancer survivor myself, this hit me at a very personal level. This particular event is a fund raiser to help defray the costs of Lance’s medical expenses and features many of the top blues acts in the North Jersey area. Having played therre several times now, I can report that ‘The Blend’ is a very clean, comfortable room with good food.
